The Fifth International Symposium on Sustainable Management of Forest Resources in Pinar del Río, Cuba.

The Fifth International Symposium on Sustainable Management of Forest Resources will take place in the westernmost province of Pinar del Rio on April 23-26 with the participation of researches and specialists from nearly 20 countries.

Some of the topics to be analyzed during the event include sustainable management of forest ecosystems, the use of wood in the construction sector and the use of information technologies in sciences related to the sector.

Other aspects to be discussed are the creation and implementation of cooperation projects and the preservation of forests.

Pinar del Rio has the largest forest reserves of the country distributed in 39.7% of its territory.

Cuba - with 2.7 million hectares of woods (24.95%) -, along with Costa Rica, Chile and Uruguay were the only Latin American countries whose forest development in 2007 supported the 'Lets Plant for the Planet international campaign promoted by the United Nations.
