Secure Eight Olympic Tickets a Cuban Boxers
The event grants two Olympic tickets in each division except for the super heavyweight category, which only gives one spot, and the 64 and 81-kilo classes, which give three tickets each.

The islands boxers who obtained their Olympic classification on Monday were Andry Laffita (51), Yankiel Leon (54), Idel Torriente (57), Yordenis Ugas (60), Rosniel Iglesias (64), Carlos Banteur (69), Emilio Correa (75) and Osmay Acosta (91).

Also on Monday, Robert Alfonso won his semifinal bout in the super-heavyweight category and he will fight for a ninth Olympic berth during Tuesdays finals as this division only grants Olympic classification to the gold medallist.

The only loss in semifinals for Cuba was that of 48-kilo Iran Perez, who lost to Venezuelan Eduard Bermudez.

Perez and 81-kilo Julio Cesar la Cruz, who lost in his second bout in the tournament, will have a second and final opportunity to classify for the Beijing Games during the second Americas Olympic qualifier that will take place later this year in Guatemala.
