Cuban Athletes to Compete in Brazil as Part of their Training for the Olympic Games in Beijing,

Some of Cuba's best athletes will compete in a series of competitions in Brazil, as part of their training for the Olympic Games in Beijing, China, this summer.

Olympic champions Osleidys Menéndez (javelin) and Yumileidi Cumba (shot put) head the Cuban delegation, which also includes triple jumper David Giralt, runner-up at World Indoor Championship in Valencia 2008; discus thrower Yarelis Barrios, bronze medalist at the World Championship in Osaka, Japan, in 2007, and hammer thrower Yunaika Crawford, Olympic bronze medalists in Athens 2004.

Other members of the Cuban delegation are Misleidys González, Olympic finalist and world and Pan-American champion in the shot put; triple jumpers Mabel Gay and Yarianna Martínez, and Mailín Vargas (shot put), Anier Boué, Yanet Cruz and María Caridad Alvarez (javelin), Arasay Thondike (hammer) and Yania Ferrales (discus).

The circuit includes competitions in Uberlandia, Fortaleza, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Belem.
