Cuban cyclist Pedro Pablo Perez woke up from a comma this weekend, several days after he suffered a traffic accident.
Perez, the best Cuban cyclist in the last 10 years, gets better physical and neurologically, although he is still in serious conditions at the "Abel Santamaria" Hospital, located in the western Pinar del Rio city.
The five times Cycling Tour of Cuba winner responds to complex orders, states the weekly, although his health "is improving as expected."
Perez was the only Cuban men's cyclist for the Beijing Olympic Games, to which his girlfriend world and Pan-American Games champion Yoanka Gonzalez will attend.
The cyclist won his fifth Tour of Cuba in February and announced he will retire from active sport after the Olympic Games in the Chinese capital.
