Cuban President Raul Castro presided over a Civil Defense Council meeting on the Isle of Youth and toured storm affected areas to assess the damage caused by the passing of hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
At a meeting of Civil Defense officials, a report was presented on the damage in the municipality and the progresses made in recovery work.
Castro explained the strategies to be followed and how important it is that everyone participate in such efforts.
Later, the Cuban president visited the Heroes de Baire General Hospital, where he talked to patients and healthcare workers, as well with the Isle's population that was waiting outside the medical facility.
