An 88 by 4 meter Mural Dedicated to Cuban Five Opens in Santa Clara
An 88 by 4 meter mural dedicated to the Cuban Five was opened Friday in the central Cuban city of Santa Clara.

The mural was painted by famous Cuban cartoonists in honor of the five men serving harsh prison sentences in the United States for their efforts to uncover terrorist actions being planned in Southern Florida against Cuba.

The director of the Melaíto monthly comic supplement that comes out in the local Vanguardia newspaper, Pedro Mendez, spoke at the opening. He said the artists left a blank spot for Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, one of the Cuban five who is also a contributor to the publication.

The mural was begun in December and celebrates the 40th anniversary of the monthly supplement and features drawings and text demanding justice in the Cuban Five case.

Among the artists who took part in the mural are René de la Nuez, Arístides ‘Ares’ Hernández and Tomás ‘Tomy’ Rodríguez.
