Boasting an outstanding record as members of the Cuban Book Institute, the awarded intellectuals were narrator and theater instructor Niurki Perez Garcia and poetess and editor Mireya Piñeiro. Also awarded was journalist and narrator Luis Carlos Suarez and poet and essay writer Marino Wilson Jay.

The National Culture Distinction was awarded to four Cuban intellectuals in the eastern province of Guantanamo in recognition of their contribution to the country´s literature patrimony.

Boasting an outstanding record as members of the Cuban Book Institute, the awarded intellectuals were narrator and theater instructor Niurki Perez Garcia and poetess and editor Mireya Piñeiro. Also awarded was journalist and narrator Luis Carlos Suarez and poet and essay writer Marino Wilson Jay.

During the ceremony, held in the Revolution Plaza of the eastern province, Luis Carlos Suarez spoke on behalf of his colleagues. He expressed his thankfulness for the distinction, which entails the encouragement to keep working in the benefit of the people.

“We receive this top honor in an outsanding and historical scenario and near other emblematic places of Cuba, such as the place where the Cuban anthem was sung for the first time,” said Luis Carlos Suarez.
