OEA
Albert Ramdin, Assistant Secretary General of the Organisation of American States (OAS), declares that the debate on Cuba’s re-admission as an active member of the hemispheric body has started and will not go away.

"It is expected that all OAS member states will consider or re-consider their position. During the 5th Summit of the Americas many countries called on the United States President Obama to lift the trade embargo against Cuba,” Ramdin stated after the Plenary Sessions of the Summit ended.

Revoking the 1962 resolution, which excluded the then government of Cuba from participating in the Inter-American system, will provide an opportunity for the OAS to collaborate with Cuba, "and maybe it is good to concentrate the assistance first in non political areas, especially in the fields of education, culture, disaster risk reduction", said the official.
