Cuban Yans Carlos Arias won the second part of the ninth stage of the 35th Vuelta a Cuba XXXV, and broke the record string of 10 consecutive victories from foreign riders.

Arias won in 1:46.13 hours in the 65 kilometers between Cienfuegos and this city to overpass the Italian rider Elia Viviani and Yoel Marino, both with similar time as the winner.

In statements to ACN news agency Arias showed his satisfaction for being the first national with a partial victory in this year's tour and said he reserved his energies for the finish line, instead of seeking to gather points in intermediate sprints, the category in which he leads with amplitude.

During this day, sunny but cool, the cyclists ran mostly in compact squad and did not introduce significant changes in rankings of the competition, led by Cuban Arnold Alcolea.

The stage’s position:

1 - Yans Carlos Arias 1:46.13 hours
2 - Elia Viviani (Italy)
3 - Yoel Mariño (Matanzas)
4 - Joaquin Sobrino (Peugeot-Spain)
5 - Wilmen Bravo
6 - Rainer Vazquez (Matanzas)
