The ninth tropical depression of the current hurricane season formed in the Central Atlantic, the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) of Cuba announced today.

  The system is 1,050 kilometers east of the Dominican Republic in the Lesser Antilles arc and has maximum sustained winds of 55 mph with higher wind gusts.

According to the report, the storm is moving west at 32 kilometers per hour. The forecast for the next 24 to 48 hours, said that the depression will continue to move west with little change in its speed.

The depression is likely to continue gaining in organization and intensity to reach tropical storm status.
