Thousands youths graduate from Information Technology schools in eastern Cuba
The number of youths graduated from mid-level Information Technology centers in Las Tunas province, since 1973, has increased to over 50, 000 with the recent graduation of 2,628 students in 24 IT specialties.
Cuban cyclists to attend continental meeting in Venezuela
Cuba's best cyclists will compete in the Pan-American Cycling Championship in the Venezuelan city of Valencia. The Caribbean Island's delegation is already in that South American country, where they are training for the event. The Cuban women's team is made up of world medalists Lisandra Guerra (500-meter time trial), Yumari González and Yoanka González (both in the scratch modality), as well as Dalila Rodríguez and Yeima Torres.
Cuba and Dominican Republic expand air routes
New flights will operate between Cuba and the Dominican Republic as of July. Cubana de Aviación executives pointed out that flights between Havana and Santo Domingo will operate on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. The Cuban-Dominican route is currently covered by Russian-made IL-62 planes, but modern TU-204-300 aircraft will be incorporated in September.

Cuba boosts investment in tourism
Cuba's tourist industry is boosting a comprehensive investment program to improve the establishments' quality of services and conditions. Tourist authorities pointed out that nearly 150 million dollars will be invested in the modernization and restoration of hotels.

Cuban artists salute malaysian independence
A total of 120 art works by 40 Cuban artists will be shown in a joint exhibit opening May 22nd in Malaysia to mark the 50th anniversary of the independence of that Asian country. The exhibit -called "Independence, Presumptions, Agreements: An Homage to the Independence of Malaysia through Cuban Art"- is a collection by the most important painters from the Cuban western province of Pinar del Rio.

Cubas concert band movement
The city of Bayamo, in the eastern province of Granma, will host the National Meeting of Concert Bands Directors under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and the provincial Centre of Music. According to the organizers of the event, international delegates and over 80 representatives of the host countrys municipalities will b participating. Likewise prestigious musicians Leo Brower, Rodolfo Posada and Esteban Quesada are expected to join the gathering.
Good cuban showing at Brazil track and field event
Cuban athletes Yoel Hernandez (hurdles) and Guillermo Martinez (javelin) took first place over the weekend at the Track and Field Grand Prize competition in the Brazilian city of Belem.

New windows for closed buses
Cuba has begun a gradual upgrading of Havanas urban transport network, but many of the buses imported from countries with colder climates come with sealed windows. Now, the COMEG metals business in Guanajay, south of the capital, has started a conversion program to increase ventilation and improve passenger comfort.
Cubas high school students assured further education
Nearly 3,000 high school graduates from Cubas eastern province of Guantanamo will study at different universities at home and throughout the country.
Venezuelan musicians grace Cubadisco Fair
Prestigious Venezuelan musicians and Cubas National Symphonic Orchestra and choirs officially opened the 2007 Cubadisco Fair on Sunday with a gala concert at Havanas Amadeo Roldan Theater.

A theoretical symposium, sponsored by the Center for Research and Development of Cuban Music, will open on Monday as part of the program of the international fair Cubadisco 2007, which will close on May 27.
Cuba builds disaster-proof shelters
Cuba's civil defense system, the main objective of which is to save people's lives, is forcefully returning to a rustic, auxiliary, low-cost, multipurpose construction, known among Cuban farmers as "vara en tierra" (a yard-high shelter).
