Fidel Castro

Now 80, Fidel Castro "is doing better and walking more every day," the Communist Party newspaper Granma overnight quoted his brother and interim leader Raul Castro, 75, as saying.

The iconic bearded Cuban leader ceded power in July for the first time in almost 48 years to Raul Castro, 75 and long Cuba's defence chief, after gastrointestinal surgery.

Fidel Castro did not take part in public events of the Non-Aligned Movement summit that Cuba hosted in Havana September 11-16, but met with a handful of world leaders.
