Producing competitive software for the international market is the only way for poor countries to overcome dependence in information technology and communication, Cuban Science, Technology, and Environment Minister Fernando Gonzales asserted.

During the third Convention of Innovation and Trends in Information Technology and Communications, a meeting that started Thursday in this capital, Gonzalez highlighted that only as creators of those resources and not as consumers of those developed countries produce, will we be able to reduce the digital gap.

He said the information-technology divide among nations is relative to their economic achievements, and we should speak about computerization in terms of info-rich or info-poor States.

Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdes, minister of Information Technology and Communications, attended the opening ceremony of the forum, which will last until Friday, and has the Cuban Information Technology and Telematic Service Company as main organizer.
