Alternative energy projects that are part of Cuba's current "energy revolution" will benefit from the work with the French company Vergnet, a maker of wind-propelled turbines.
Vergnet, which has 18 years of expertise in the field, will install turbines on wind farms similar to the one already functioning at Los Canarreos, on the Isle of Youth to the southeast of Havana, which generate approximately ten per cent of the total energy consumed in that area. This experimental wind farm has saved fifteen tons of oil since its construction was completed in February.
The Vergnet wind generators are equipped with collapsible towers that can be disassembled and easily fixed to the ground in case of hurricanes.
