Cuban experts won several gold medals at the World Philatelic Exhibition Saint Petersburg 2007, held recently in Russia.
The event was attended by stamps collectors from 80 countries, thus the importance of the acknowledgements granted to the Cuban philatelists.
One of the gold medals went Daniel Montes Peralta (Group C) for his collection Colonial Cuba, while Adrian Fernández (Group A), won a gold medal for his collection of Cuba's Pre-Philatelist Postal Marks.
In the adult category, the gold medal went to José Ignacio Abreu for his collection Cuban Pre-Philately. He also won the jury's medal as an acknowledgement of his mastery.
The competition was held at the Exhibition Center, where a 50-strong jury, mainly made up of Asian and Eastern European members, granted the Grand Award to a collection from Thailand.
Participants also acknowledged the importance of philately as a tool to improve the cultural education of the new generations.
