After several years of disregard in the application of standards for a quality management system, 24 enterprises from the Cuban central province of Sancti Spiritus have been certified by the NC-ISO-9001, a Cuban Standard derived from an International Norm aimed to improve the performance of the organizations.
Pedro Gonzalez, director of the Territorial Standard Office (OTN) told Escambray that the Provincial Administration Council passed a program in this respect in 2003, thus the first two enterprises were certified in this territory the following year.
The "Sergio Soto" oil refinery has been recently granted its certification while the cement factory hopes for the same before the end of the year along with nearly 30 other organizations.
The application of these standards is closely supervised every semester and every year, with a validity of three years when all the requirements are fulfilled.
