Plastic waste treatment plants produced by the government enterprise ASTISUR in Cienfuegos province have proved valuable to the Cuban economy.

Made of plastic reinforced with glass fibre instead of reinforced concrete and anticorrosive coated steel, these plants are able to process almost any kind of materials, with little corrosion.

High effectiveness is achieved with the use of this technology since 1997, with a lower production cost, longer life span, and no maintenance required.

So far fourteen plants have been produced and are already in use along the island mainly in tourist facilities and remote mountainous areas. One plant has been installed in the easternmost province of Guantanamo to process coffee waste and produce biogas.

ASTISUR Cienfuegos, the manufacturer, was awarded a prize for the plants in Havana Trade Fair 2006.
