The preparatory process of the general elections in Cuba is working well. Since July 9, when the Council of State called on elections, everything has been satisfactorily fulfilled, according to what was planned, said the vice president of the National Electoral Commission (CEN) Ruben Perez Rodriguez on Monday, at the end of a meeting with representatives of the national press held in Havana.
«From July 9 to 16, there has been the establishment of the national electoral commissions, the 14 provincial commissions and the one for the special municipality of the Isle of Youth, in addition to the commissions of the other 168 municipalities, as well as the swearing in of their members.»
Ruben Perez Rodriguez pointed out that today they will continue working on the designation of the members of the 90 district electoral commissions. The establishment of the commissions and the swearing in of their members will take place on July 18.
As established by Cubas Electoral Law, these districts are created in those municipalities with more than 100,000 people. They will be located in 29 municipalities of 13 provinces and will function in the second stage of the general elections, or what is the election of the delegates to the provincial assemblies and the representatives to the National Assembly.
The vice president of the CEN said that they will work on the designation of the members of the more than 15,230 neighborhood electoral commissions until Friday. The establishment of these commissions is scheduled for July 19 to 22.
Moreover, the necessary instructions and an important group of organizational steps have been taken, so that the work places of all commissions are equipped with the required conditions.
Everything related to connectivity, communications, transport and guaranteeing office stationary has also been organized.
The vice president of the CEN also said that the Special Electoral Commission of the Revolutionary Armed Forces was established on Monday. This special commission will be the only one of its type to work during the general elections.
The Law No. 72 of the Electoral Law says that special electoral commissions could be established, if necessary, for those people who permanently live in military units and exceptionally in boarding schools. They could be also established for those people who need to stay for a long time in places within the national territory which are not their homes, due to their work.
