The diploma was delivered Thursday to First Vice President Raul Castro, during the first graduation ceremony held in that higher education center.
UCI vice rector Alina Ruiz talked of Fidel Castro's protagonist role in conceptions, models and scientific methods of a revolutionary and socialist information technology at the service of the country and humanity.
In front of 1,334 graduates in Information Sciences, Ruiz stated that the title recognizes the Cuban statesman's geniality on training those professionals from the production and investigation.
Carlos Valenciaga, member of the Cuban Communist Party's Central Committee, said that the UCI is a consequence of a political situation and result of the idea of a man who has never lost confidence in the future.
Those graduates received their titles together with a copy of the book "One Hundred Hours of Solitude" by journalist Ignacio Ramonet, as well as a message by the Cuban president.
