The fishing of lobsters in the southern coasts of the Cuban province of Sancti Spiritus has rendered profitable results after five months of inactivity due to the close season.
Biologists from PESCASILDA enterprise, in Trinidad municipality, assure lobsters will be abundant this year in several areas of the territory. Over 113 tons have been already caught, which represents 45% of this years plan.
Arturo Pascual Martinez, chief of the Casilda-based organization, told Escambray that during the February-June recess time, the fishermen were engaged in the installation of over 2 153 cages in the different ships.
Several local fishermen -the only ones to do so in the country- catch the crustacean by diving into the sea, thus they sometimes have to plunge into the water a hundred times a day.
