The report posted Thursday on the ministry's website says Cuba has gained worldwide recognition as a major meeting destination in the region over the latest few years.
This form of tourism has been promoted in Cuba due to the large number of convention centers on the island, each equipped with state-of-the-art technology - ranging from advanced computer and communications technology to transportation, the text explained.
The centers, which usually include sports facilities and exhibition areas, also boast of a network of hotels with highly qualified staff, which have made it possible for the country to develop the industry, the report adds.
Every year, Cuba hosts around 300 events with the participation of thousands of people coming from all over the world.
According to statistics gathered last year by the International Congress and Conventions Association (ICCA), Cuba climbed to the sixth place in Latin America and to eight on the continent in the holding of events.
Meanwhile, Havana ended up in the fourth place in Latin America and fifth on the continent, with the Cuban capital having been chosen as the site for 27 major events, noted in the ICCA report.
