Cuba has solid mechanisms to address drug addiction

Even though drug addiction rates in Cuba are low compared to other countries, the nation has in place a sound system to deal with this scourge. It is a system focused on treatment and rehabilitation.
National Medical Ethics Commission President Dr. Ricardo Gonzalez Menendez, says addicts can be treated at any family doctor's office first, or at any community mental health institution if necessary.
He also mentioned a confidential Anti-drug Hot Line as a very effective mechanism to assist people with addiction problems. Callers are not asked to give their names. Likewise, doctors do not reveal information on any of their patients.
