Electoral authorities, from national to district level, are now making sure that everything is in place to ensure that the process of candidate nominations for the municipal assemblies will be carried out with a clear and clean democratic character, said Friday Ruben Perez Rodriguez, vice president of the National Electoral Commission (CEN).
Perez Rodriguez noted that from September 1-26, a total of 50,635 district candidate nomination meetings will be held across the island. This will mark the fulfillment of one of the most important steps of the current general elections process.
The National Electoral Commission insists «on the training of authorities in everything relating to the full understanding of the electoral law, regulations regarding candidate nominations and the steps to be accomplished during these district meetings, because no one should think that they know it all - not even those who have participated in several previous processes,» he said.
Organization details are also being finalized, including the selection of the places where the nomination meeting will be held in each area, preparing the conditions for the meetings, and the information that will be handed out to voters explaining when, how and at what time the nomination meeting of their area will take place.
The vice president of the National Electoral Commission also noted that grassroots and community members can be of great help in carrying out the nomination meetings, as in previous processes.
«We must turn candidate nomination meetings into a moment in which our people are fully aware that by attending, participating and nominating, they are not only showing their confidence in the people they propose, but also in the Cuban Revolution, Perez Rodriguez said.
