"We try to reflect in this issue her personality, qualities and particular example of beauty," National Arts Council member Carolina Aguilar said Tuesday during the launching of the publication.
Vilma Espin joined while very young the revolutionary struggle in her birthplace Santiago de Cuba, and was the first woman in Fidel Castro's Rebel Army, and led the Cuban Women's Federation (FMC) after the triumph of the Revolution.
Her death on June 18 caused great grief in the island and throughout the world, where she fought for the emancipation of women and defended the rights of children.
This magazine's issue gathers almost one hundred familiar or unpublished photos, and others known for her participation in the guerrilla movement and her presence in official and women's activities and world events..
Its director Isabel Moya stated that this was the most difficult issue of those published, due to the collaboration received from the island's important academics and people in general.
The act, carried out in a center dedicated to the study of women in this capital, was attended by important FMC leaders, outstanding members of the organization, as well artists and academics who wrote articles for this special issue.
