Cuba pays tribute to the popular political leader Eduardo Chibás, almost 100 years after his birth, recalling the young man of "integrity against money" and a model of honor and bravery.
Several institutions such as the Institute of History and the Cuban Historians Union, led by Raúl Izquierdo, will disseminate information about the life and career of Chibás within and outside the country, given that foreign enemies of the Revolution engage in disinformation campaigns.Izquierdo reported that programs and materials such as Qué República era aquella (What Republic was That), as well as his last speech, will be rebroadcast.
The purpose of these activities is to popularize Chibás example, which maintains extraordinary relevance today as the quest for social justice and a better world continues.
Izquierdo also announced that a commemorative exhibition will open in the National Archives this Friday, where documents, newspapers, photographs and other personal objects will be displayed.
At the event a pair of eyeglasses that belonged to Chibás and his death mask will be donated to the Museum of the Revolution.
On Saturday another tribute will take place at his graveside where the books Vergüenza contra dinero, La ortodoxia en el ideario americano (Integrity against Money, The Orthodox Movement within American Ideas) and Eduardo Chibás, el gran cívico (Great Civic Leader) will be launched.
More activities are scheduled for Santiago de Cuba where tributes will also be rendered to show the relevance of a figure who, with great valor, directly and publicly challenged murderers and the corrupt.
