President Fidel Castro and Revolutionary Armed Forces Minister Raul Castro lead the list of figures distinguished with the 50th anniversary decoration for outstanding revolutionary action, according to Tuesday reports.
The awarding ceremony took place in the central Cuban province of Cienfuegos, stage of a civic-military uprising against the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship on September 5, 1957. At that time, Navy soldiers took part in the uprising, distributing weapons to the people and the provincial capital was controlled by the revolutionaries for almost 24 hours.
The distinctions for Fidel and Raul Castro were given by Julio Camacho Aguilera, who led the then July 26 movement rebellion, in hands of provincial leaders of the Cuban Communist Party and the Peoples' Power.
Combatants from that battle and relatives of those fallen in combat were also awarded in the ceremony.
