The central Cuban province of Sancti Spiritus has benefited from an increase in production of canned food to meet the growing demand from the domestic market.
The Yayabo plant, in the provincial capital, has been remodeled to process more than 30 varieties of fruit and vegetables.
According to experts, 90 percent of production will go to the tourist sector, while the rest will be sold on the domestic market.
In addition, the plant will process 100 tons of pickles a year to reduce imports.
Local agricultural authorities said that this is the first factory of its kind run by the company Frutiflora in the country, and will supply the central provinces.
The factory will start processing meat by the end of the year.
