According to Doctor Maricela González Pérez, vice- rector of research studies, the international symposium for the 35 anniversary is aimed at favoring reflections and international exchange on the scientific results, the missions and the functions of the University in the territory.

The institution counts on 117 doctors in the staff and since 2001 have received at least one prize by the Academy of Science of Cuba.

One of the strongest points of the center is Forestal Engineering, since it has the majority of the Doctors. Until 2003, Hermanos Saiz University was the only institution in the country with that career, and then Granma and Guantanamo opened these studies with teachers trained in Pinar as Masters and Doctors.

Another branch several times recognized in the whole country is Didactics of Higher Education, which has had great significance for the advances of the Universalization process in every municipality of the province, since it trains all the professors of the institution.

Concerning Didactics there is a research line of educative technologies that seems to have a profitable future, 10 software programs are annually registered, most of them intended to teaching.

Likewise, the research studies on the environment, business management, and the information for the development of knowledge are landmarks planned by the University.
