The African dignitary was met at the Jose Marti International Airport by Cuban Minister of Higher Education Juan Vela Valdes.
In a brief exchange with the press, Bernardo Vieira highlighted the friendship between the two countries and thanked the Cuban people for their assistance and contribution to the independence struggles of his country. "The Cuban people can always count on the support of Guinea Bissau," he stressed.
During his stay in Cuba, the Guinean president has an agenda that includes meetings with different Cuban leaders and tours of places of scientific, historic and cultural interest.
Cuba and Guinea Bissau established official diplomatic relations in October 1973, although from an earlier date Cuban internationalists fought in the independence struggles of the West African nation.
