The two stunning presentations of the choreography by prima ballerina Alicia Alonso based on the original by Marius Petipa were highly praised by the critics and the public at the Coliseum Theater in Buenos Aires on December 5 and 6, 2006.
The prize -a replica of the Obelisk of Buenos Aires featuring the comedy and tragedy masks on either side - was received by Oscar Viaño, member of Argentina's Stage and Artistic Movies Promoting Company. Viaño will deliver the distinction at the Cuban embassy to be later on handed in to the BNC and Alicia Alonso.
The Ballet Don Quixote has been in the repertoire of Cuba's National Ballet since debuting at the Gran Teatro de la Habana in 1988. It has been successfully staged in the United States, Spain, Holland, England, and Egypt among other countries.
