Panamanian Foreign Minister begins visit to Cuba

Panamanian First Vice President and Foreign Minister Samuel Lewis Navarro begins an official visit to Cuba on Monday at the invitation of Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque.
The distinguished visitor heads a large delegation that includes Vice Minister of Commerce and Industry Carmen Gisela Vergara, Advisor to the Presidents Office Luis Gomez, Director of the National Institute of Culture Anel Rodriguez, and other Panamanian officials and businesspersons.
The visit comes within both countries desires to work to continue to strengthen existing cooperation, and political and commercial ties. Some 541 Panamanians have graduated in Cuba and another 519 are currently studying in Cuba; and 14,411 Panamanians have received operations under the framework of the Operation Miracle free eye-surgery initiative. This year, Panama embarked on a national literacy campaign using the Cuban Yes, I Can method.
