Orishas in Homage to Juan Luis Guerra

The Cuban rap group Orishas, together with Daddy Yankee, Carlos Vives, Ricky Martin and other Latin stars participated in the homage that was paid in Las Vegas to the salsa musician from the Dominican Republic Juan Luis Guerra.
The author of Bachata Rosa with more than 20 years of experience, 10 albums, hundreds of songs compound and several awards receive the recognition Person of the Year of the Recording Latin Academy.
At a gala supper where he was surrounded by colleagues and friends, Guerra was accompanied also by Rubén Blades, the Mexican Lucero and Aleks Syntek, Victor Manuelle, the Dominicans Milly Quezada and Johnny Ventura, and the Brazilian Daniela Mercury who interpreted some of her songs.
When Guerras distinction was announced who was also heading the list of nominees Latin Grammy with five nominations, said to be very happy and honored. "Id say this year is very special for my career", he expressed. Its an honor, I was not expecting this award and I welcomed it with pleasure."
"Just listening to my songs in the voices of so many wonderful artists will be very pleasant", said the author of hit songs like Si tu te vas, Me enamoro de ella, Ojala que llueva café and La bilirrubina, among many others.
Guerra who since 1984 heads the group 440 and whose album of 1991 Bachata Rosa won him the first of many North American Grammy, he will vie in the Grammys gala next this Thursday in the categories Best album of the year and Best Merengue album with La llave de mi corazón, as well as Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Tropical song for the song of equal name.
Guerras lyrics have always been characterized by their poetry, metaphors, romantic content and the sublime way in which he presents social issues, as in the song El Niagara en bicicleta, which deals with the shortage of resources in the public hospitals of Latin America, and El costo de la vida.
The singer and songwriter who learned how to play the guitar on his own and studied in the prestigious Music School of Berklee in Boston, he has won together with the 4.40 four Grammy awards.
In year 2000 he won two gramophones, Best tropical song for El Niagara en bicicleta and Best Merengue interpretation for Ni es lo mismo ni es igual; and in 2005 other two awards to Best Christian album for Para ti and Best Tropical song for Las avispas.
Ricky Martin, Jose Jose, Carlos Santana, Gilberto Gil, Vicente Fernandez, Julio Iglesias and the North American Emilio Estefan are among the artists whom the Academy has previously awarded as Person of the Year.
