With a large number of artistic activities, Havana citizens will celebrate the 448 birthday of their city next November 16.
Films on the development of Cuban musical cinema, childrens painting workshops, oral narration sessions and traditional feasts are part of the program of celebrations that will take place from November 12 to 19 in the Historic Center of the City.
Havana Historian Eusebio Leal said he will deliver a key lecture, November 15, at the Convention Hall, during the plenary session of the 15th Encounter of Solidarity and Cooperation among City Halls with Havana. The event will be attended by some 500 delegates from 32 Latin American, Asian, African and European countries.
Leal announced that a ceremony to mark the 40th anniversary of the Historians Office of Havana City [ http://www.ohch.cu/ ] will take place next December 2nd. The entity is involved in urban planning, research and the development of a monthly cultural program, said Leal who underscored the efforts made by the Office in favor of restoration of the citys built stock.
A traditional ceremony to mark the founding of the city will take place November 15 at 6 pm in the original place where it took place 488 years ago and it will be followed by a popular pilgrimage to the site.
Also included in the program is the inauguration of a photo exhibition by US artist Cathryn Griffith, titled "Havana Revisited: An Architectural Heritage".
