Contemporary Polish Film Week in Havana

When we talked about the best European cinematography in the '60s and '70s, we used to talk about the great masters from the Polish cinema, a school that marked those times with its aesthetics and attracted the attention of Cuban moviegoers.
For some years, that filmography has been absent from our cinema halls. Thats why, we term very significant the screening, at the Charles Chaplin Hall of the Cuban Cinematheque, of films from contemporary Polish cinema, those productions made in our times and all in premiere in our country now.
And this November since its opening on the 16th with film "Persona non grata", by outstanding director Krzysztof Zanussi, well meet again with that cinema, thanks to the screening of this film co-produced by Poland, Russia and Italy in 2005, in which cast well also meet again with Daniel Olbrychski, one of the greatest actors from that cinematography.
The film deals with diplomacy and takes place in the city of Montevideo. It has deserved diverse awards such as the Jury Award and the Best Cast Actor Award, picked by another great actor and film director, Russian Nikita Mijalkov at the Polish Film Festival.
The sample also includes "El recaudador" (2005), the story of a lonely man, devoted to his profession, human soul exploration. This film received six Eagle Awards, for Best Director, Film, Actor, Actress, Production Design and Original Script, as well as the Audience Award and other five awards at the Polish Film Festival, and the SIGNIS Prize at the Berlin Film Festival and that was nominated to the Oscar Awards.
Film "Soy" (2005), by Dorota Kedzierzawska, which tells the story from the experiences of a boy and stands out because of its sound track, thanks to the music from Michael Nyman, the same composer of "El piano". This feature film received three awards at the Polish Cinema Festival and other laurels.
Film "Palimpsesto" (2006), by Konrad Niewolski, makes up the programming within suspense genre and took the Special Jury Award at the RiverRun Film Festival and the Best Photography Award at the Polish Film Festival.
Another Polish film is "Giordano, el ángel enamorado" (2005), by Artur Wiecek, which moves between reality and fantasy, with the language of the romantic comedy and the resources from the musical.
The list also comprises "La boda" (2004), by Wojciech Smarzowski, comedy of familiar intrigues, described by critics as black humor. It won three awards at the Polish Film Festival and six Eagle Prizes, among which stand out the award for Best Film and Director in 2005, as well as other awards at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland and the Film Festival in Karlovy Vary, in the Czech Republic.
For his part, Ryszard Brylski offers us "Zurek" (2003), human drama that takes place between a mother and her single daughter who will have to assume her motherhood. It ran off with the Polish Eagle Awards for Best Actress (Katarzyna Figura) and Best Editing in 2004.
