The Cuban Spanish co production La Edad de la Peseta ''An Awkward Age'' by Cuban director Pavel Giroud, will be one of the nine Latin American movies competing next year for the Goya Awards, of the Spanish Film Academy, in the category of best foreign movie of Spanish language.

The news was announced at the Iberoamerican Film Festival of Huelva in the southern region of Spain, where Giroud's film is competing.

Among the Latin American films that have also been nominated for the Goya Awards that will be granted in February 2008 are Postales de Leningrado (Postcards from Leningrad),a Venezuelan-Peruvian co-production by Mariana Rondon, who graduated from the International School of Cinema and Television of San Antonio de los Baños in Cuba.

The list also includes Francisco J. Lombardi's Mariposa Negra (Black Butterfly) from Peru; Christopher Zalla's Padre Nuestro (Our Father) from Chile and El Baño del Papa (The Pope's Bath), a French-Uruguayan co-production by Enrique Fernandez and Cesar Charlone.

Recently, La Edad de la Peseta won the Audience Award at the Cero Latitud Film Festival of Quito, Ecuador.
