Proposals for candidates to be nominated for election as delegates to the Provincial Assemblies of Peoples Power and deputies to the National Assembly (Parliament) are now ready to be presented to the new Municipal Assemblies of People Power, which will make those nominations on December 2.

That was confirmed to the Granma newspaper by Amarilys Pérez Santana, president of the Commission of National Candidacies (CCN).

All of the commissions "national, 14 provincial and 169 municipal" have worked vigorously in selecting the pre-candidates based on a large initial pool of more than 55,000 citizens, she explained.

The process of analysis was difficult, and the process of elimination was carried out little by little among men and women of proven capabilities, with prestige and accomplishments in different walks of life, she noted. However, "we are confident that we have come up with solid proposals based on an intensive process of popular consultations.

"For us it would be a success for the Municipal Assemblies not to reject any of the compañeros, but those bodies of Peoples Power, comprised of delegates recently elected by the people, have full power under the law to object to one or all of the pre-candidates that we present," she said. "For that possibility, we have a set of reserve proposals."

"While were saying that the lists of pre-candidates are now ready, we are continuing to seek opinions on their composition," commented Pérez Santana, who is also a trade union leader and presides over the CCN representing the Central Organization of Cuban Workers. "The current round of consultations is being done with municipal delegates on an individual basis, so that they can once again express, completely freely, any opinion to the Candidacy Commission in their municipality."

Other members of the CCN, such as Alberto Marchante and Héctor Raúl Fajardo, say that the biographies of the pre-candidates have been printed up to facilitate the consultations. The duty of the Candidacy Commissions is to continue supplying these to delegates so that they have as much information as possible and make informed statements both during one-on-one consultations and in the extraordinary sessions of the Municipal Assemblies on December 2, when they exercise their right to propose the candidates for provincial delegates and parliamentary deputies.

In every province, up to 50% of all candidates for nomination in both cases will be delegates of the Municipal Assemblies in question. By their composition, the proposals for candidates ensure the fulfillment of that principal established in election law.
