The Fifth National Festival of Cuban Folk Music that concluded last Tuesday in the eastern province of Las Tunas paid tribute to the work of Barbarito Diez.
The event took place in the locality of Manati from November 30th to December 4th, which marked the 98th birthday anniversary of Diez, also known as the 'Voice of Danzon'.
The festival included dancing contests, concerts and galas at the recently restored municipal movie-theater and at the Theater of Las Tunas.
Some of the artists that participated in the festival were Mundito González, Dayaní Lozano, Rolando Montero (El Muso), Luanda Suárez, Norge Batista and Freddy Vera, among others.
Spanish artist Pier, who participates every year in the Golden Boleros Festival in Havana, was also present.
The organizers of this biannual event, headed by Dr. Pablo Diez Cordova - son of the renowned singer - said they are already making the necessary arrangements to hold a historic festival in 2009, marking the centennial of Barbarito Diez.
