The Fourth Cuban Book Fair in Peru began in the capital with a display of more than a hundred titles from the island and an array of cultural activities.
The fair was opened by Ediciones Cubanas representative Debora Zambrano, president of the Gender, Education, Health and Solidarity Group, along with Cuban Ambassador to Peru Luis Delfín Pérez.
Zambrano and Pérez both noted that the exposition is not limited to offering literature from Cuba, but also includes music and dance from the island as well as poetry recitals.
Pérez emphasized the importance given in Cuba to books and reading, the motivation behind Cuban publishers to participate enthusiastically at fairs like this one in Lima and in many countries around the world.
The five-day fair also includes expositions on Cubas Health and Education systems and seminars conducted by Cuban authors.
Among the discussion groups are one on The Old Man and the Sea, by Ernest Hemingway and set in Cuba; and another on the evolution of the bolero genre of music.
Documentary films will be shown during the fair on the Nueva Trova Movement and other topics of the arts in Cuba.
