New Ophthalmology Facility Opened in Sancti Spiritus, Cuba

"This is an achievement of the health system both in this province and throughout the country, a fortress of our medical services", said Miguel Acebo Cortiñas, first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in the island's central province of Sancti Spiritus during the opening ceremony of a new ophthalmology complex annexed to the provincial hospital.
The new health institution features a state-of-the-art technology and is provided with four surgery theaters, a cornea bank and an outpatient clinic, among other facilities.
At present moment, patients can be treated on different eye diseases like cataract and glaucoma. Besides, they will soon be benefitted with the excimer laser technique.
The construction of this institution began in the year 2005 with an overall cost of over 3 million Cuban pesos.
