Relatives of Cuban Five Meet with Nordic Solidarity Brigade
Relatives of the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters who remain unjustly imprisoned in the United States met on Thursday with the members of the 48th contingent of the Nordic Brigade in Solidarity with Cuba.

The Julio Antonio Mella International Camp, in Habana province, was the venue for this meeting in which more than 120 brigade members learned about the case of these five men and their current appeal process.

Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez - internationally known as the Cuban Five - were arrested nine years ago and condemned to harsh sentences in a biased and fraudulent trial for infiltrating anti-Cuba extremist groups in South Florida that were planning and carrying out terrorist actions against the Cuban people.

"These groups have carried out, for more than four decades, terrorist actions against Cuban citizens that have caused the death of more than 4,000 innocent people," said Rene's brother, Roberto Gonzalez.

For their part, Mirtha Rodriguez and Irma Sehwerert, mothers of Antonio and Rene, respectively, told the brigade members about the need to let the world know the truth of the case and to mobilize the international public opinion in favor of their release.

This 48th contingent of the Nordic Brigade arrived in Cuba on December 16th and they will carry out many actions in support of the Cuban social project. During their stay on the island they will also visit places of economic, historic and social interest.(acn)
