With around 800 blind writers, the movement of those creators was consolidated in Cuba during the year 2007, thanks to a greater access of that part of the population to education and reading.

An example of this may be seen in the increase in the number of exponents of the manifestation, as well as in the quality of those pieces, many of them awarded in national and international competitions. Among the provinces, the most important ones are Havana, the winner in the last national encounter celebrated in Holguin and with the greatest participation, apart from Santiago de Cuba, Villa Clara and Havana City.

A group of these creators stand out, among them José Miguel Ramos, the most awarded one who achieved in the year 2007 four awards and a mention and Gilda Guimeras, the absolute winner in the most recent national encounter of those writers. The literary workshops that group together those exponents of the genre work already in view of the municipal and provincial encounters, aiming for the national event programmed for October 2008 in Camaguey.
