Spanish producing companies are preparing a documentary on the last Cuban slave, Esteban Montejo, who died in 1974 after living 114 years.
Radio Habana Cuba explains in its digital edition that the movie, conceived by the movie agencies Szena TV and Creativos Promotores, will be titled El Cimarrón, confesiones del último esclavo español (The runaway slave, confessions from the last Spanish slave) and is based on the book by Miguel Barnet called Biografía de un cimarrón (Biography of a runaway slave).
That text from the Cuban writer published in 1966 has already 73 editions and it has been translated into 16 languages.
The documentary, with the script written by Juan Carlos Tabío, the author of the movie Fresa y Chocolate (Strawberry and Chocolate) and Guantanamera, will last 90 minutes and it takes place in the places the life of the main character took place.
