Cuban Families Benefit from ALBA Project
Nearly 27,000 inhabitants from the Cuban municipality of Venezuela will benefit with an endogenous development project, part of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA), said an official source here on Tuesday.

The objective is to make social, cultural, and economic transformations based in the rescue of traditions, respect for the environment and equitable production relations to increase the people's welfare.

The three-year project began at the end of 2007 with an investment valued at 14.9 million dollars.

Elio Castillo, Foreign Investment Ministry delegate in the province of Ciego de Avila, told Prensa Latina that more than 300 investments in 114 places will be developed this year.

He said the main idea is to strengthen production systems in state institutions and farmer and cooperative entities, and to purchase and repair agricultural machinery and equipment to increase food production.

Castillo mentioned other objectives such as an increase and electrification of watering systems in areas for growing vegetables, viands, grains, fruits, sugarcane and cattle fodder.

Other purposes include construction, repair and maintenance of agricultural roads and homes to strengthen working labor in rural communities.

The endogenous project from within the community is the way to move forward on political, social, economic, technological and cultural integration, Castillo concluded.
