Cuba saved more than 30,000 tons of fuel in 2007 with the production of some 110,000 megawatts of electricity through the exploitation of hydro-energy.
According to the website of Cubavision Internacional, there are hydro-energy facilities in nine of the country's 14 provinces, which have benefited more than 35,000 people who live in remote places and did not have access to electricity.
In 2007, the equipment was modernized and many of its operators
received training courses.
Specialists are planning to increase efficiency in 2008 and also to
continue researches to give a boost to the use of this source of energy.
