Deputy Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) Minister America Santos termed "notable" that proportion, in a sector with over 74,000 workers, most of them at a higher level.
Santos told AIN there are about 34,000 scientists working in specialized entities and over 5,400 have scientist labor categories, included technologists.
The island has 257 patent requests promoted by the Industrial Property Office, with an indicator of 0.84 for every 10,000 inhabitants, according to the deputy CITMA minister.
The sector has received relevant results in 2007, among them medicines, vaccines, medical equipment, information technology services, chemical and biotechnological productions for agriculture and fishing, iron and steelworking and energy technologies.
