Savigne won the womens long jump event at the Osaka World Championship last year in Japan and she is the islands main hope to advance to the finale of her event on Friday and the favorite to win the title due to her quality and the consistency she has showed in recent months.

Other Cuban athletes who make their debut on Friday are high jumper Victor Moya, long jumper Wilfredo Martinez, and sprinters Henry Vizcaino and Virgen Benavides (60 meters).
