The carnivals kicked off with the traditional election of the Coffee Flower and its Petals, an activity dedicated to the main economic sector in the territory.
During the feasts, the locals will be swaying to the tunes of renowned Cuban bands as well as traditional music groups. Also part of the carnival are cultural parades and rodeo sessions; the activities are taking place in different plazas and facilities in downtown Guisa, where the people enjoy typical drinks and traditional food.
The town of Guisa was founded August 16, 1765 by a Spanish colonel called Jose Antonio de Silva, who ruled in the city of Bayamo, also in eastern Granma province. The Spanish officer was granted the title of Marquis of Guisa by King Carlos III of Spain, in 1774.
