The product, known as Heberprovac, is currently being administered to patients at the Maria Curie Oncology Hospital, in this eastern city.
The medication offers patients high security due to minimal adverse reactions and the expected lowering of levels of testosterone and the specific prostate antigen.
Doctor Jesus Junco, who is leading the project, told the Cuban News Agency that tests will continue to find out if the medication meets all conditions to be considered a therapeutic vaccine.
He said the Heberprovac is used to fight cancer actions in advanced stage.
A report on clinical tests with the new medication was presented at the 6th National Immunology Congress, which closed last Saturday in Camaguey. The forum was attended by 160 delegates from throughout the island, who made over 170 presentations on different subjects, like vaccines and the immunological diagnosis.
