Cuba: Nominees to Cubadisco 2008 Announced

The organizing committee of this big record party, scheduled to take place in several locations of the Cuban capital, considered 111 proposals in such categories as anthology-compilation, fusion, jazz, traditional popular music, folk music, lyric song, instrumental vocal music and chamber music.
Likewise, organizers decided to include a concert soloist, popular dance, trova rock, pop rock, dancing pop, music for children, childrens stories, opera prima, record notes and in situ recording, design, DVD, multimedia, video clip, documentary and DVD shows.
On the other hand, the nominees for the Special Awards are "Noel Nicola. 37 canciones" (Ojalá Record Label); "Te doy una canción, Homenaje al trovador Silvio Rodríguez" (Pablo de la Torriente Brau Cultural Center) and Benny Moré (Recordings and Musical Editions Company) (EGREM).
Other nominees are "Canta mi tierra", of Bis Music and project "Persona y pensamiento", by Harold Gramatges, "Esther Borja y María Teresa Linares", from the Festival House of New Latin American Cinema.
The event of the Cuban record will include May 19-23 an International Symposium, sponsored by the Center for Research and Development of Cuban Music and the Cuban Music Institute, which thread will be Africa and its history, oral, literary and musical traditions, among others.
Since 1997, the Cubadisco Prize is held every year, aimed at recognizing and encouraging the quality in Cubas record production and to contribute to its promotion and spread.
