The 11th Casa de las Americas Musicology Award was granted last week to Omar Corrado, for his essay Vanguardias al Sur: La música de Juan Carlos Paz, Buenos Aires, 1897-1972 (Avant-gardes to the South: the Music of Juan Carlos Paz, Buenos Aires, 1897-1972). In his original work Corrado offers a historic retelling of the musical avant-gardes in Latin America, starting from the analysis of the creators.
The jury of the award was made up of musicologists Egberto Bermudez, from Colombia; Consuelo Carredano, from México; Lino Neira, from Cuba; Agustin Ruiz, from Chile, and Maria Elena Vinueza (Ecuador-Cuba). They also decided to grant a unique honorable mention to the work presented by Mexican Gustavo Delgado Parra.
